RACINE â When Art Howell joined the Racine Police Department, the city was entering one of its darkest times. Upon his retirement Wednesday after 37 years with the RPD, Racine has been experiencing record lows, year after year, in major crimes since Howell became chief of police.

Howell grew up on Davis Place, just south of Downtown Racine. As he was graduating from high school in 1980, a recession was sweeping across the Midwest. Stable industrial jobs went overseas or south of the border. Unemployment rates, especially among workers of color, shot up.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KFVS) - A therapy dog that spent his life brightening people’s days in the Heartland hung up his collar in retirement.
“He’s touched all of our lives,” said Carol Baker, Petie’s mom. “He’s been able to get through to people that others for whatever reason can’t.”
After 10 years of working as a therapy dog, Petie celebrated his retirement at PetSmart in Popular Bluff with two and four legged friends. While at work, Petie visited people in nursing homes, hospitals, and the VA Medical Center.
Roy Williams plans to retire after 48 seasons as a basketball coach and 33 seasons as a head coach, which included the last 18 with the Tar Heels.
Williams will address the media on Roy Williams Court at the Dean E. Smith Center on Thursday (April 1) at 4:00 p.m., according to a news release on UNC Athletics official website.
Williams, a UNC alum, led the Tar Heels to three national championships (2005, 2009, 2017) and trails only
Dean Smith who he coached alongside as an assistant from 1978-88 for the most wins in program history (485.)
During Williams tenure, North Carolina made the NCAA tournament in all but two seasons, the national championship four times and the Final Four five times, while also winning three ACC tournaments and nine ACC regular season titles.
